Anna Wigram was born in Parsippo, India where she began her illustrious career designing clothing for the Royal Indian Department of excise and customs. After that she opened her own design boutique and worked with numerous famous designers like Jomier of Menes and Le Corbusier. She retired from the fashion industry in 1974 but remained busy doing art work and writing.

Wigram's works can be described as a fusion of traditional and contemporary Indian patterns and styles. Her designs for dresses were inspired by ancient Indian embroidery, vaids, paisley, handicraft, bead work, motifs from Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese and Java, Indian jewelry, woodwork, metalwork and bead work. The designs for garments went through many changes like the mixing and matching of colors, changing patterns and finally the reduction of bulky designs to make them more wearable. Anna Wigram's creations from the 1970's can still be seen in fashionable boutiques all over the world. Today Anna Wigram's designs are used as inspiration for fashion designer apparel. They are replicated to make replicas of the original outfits worn by celebrities including Madonna, Dita Von Teese and Brigitte Bardot.
