Is Old Fashioned Still Relevant? | old fashioned

The old fashioned is simply a drink made by blending sugar with vermouth and water and adding brandy or whiskey, less usually, lemon juice and a cherry. In some cases it can also be topped with an absinthe spritz or simple lemonade. The old fashioned is normally served in an old fashioned glass, which predates the modern cocktail shaker. If you are not familiar with old fashioned drinks then you should try one or two and see how they are made.

One of the most traditional ingredients is gin or vodka. Another common ingredient is triple sec. A good old fashioned recipe calls for gin, triple sec, and club soda. Mix them in a rocks glass filled with ice and shake well.

Manhattan is another drink that falls under the old fashioned category. In the old days this was always made with a simple mix of all gin and vermouth. These days the ingredients are a little more complicated, but the base recipe is still the same. For a Manhattan standard rock glass is normally used, but if you want to make a Manhattan from scratch, then use a martini shaker. Combine three ingredients: rye, gin, and 3 oz of your favorite whiskey.

Another variation of this old fashioned drink is the Martini. In this version you replace the gin with a Martini liqueur and substitute the whiskey for a sweeter brand of vodka. Add a fresh lemon and top off with a small amount of ice. You can also use a simple sugar cube in place of sugar cubes in the mixing glass. Stir well and serve over ice.

Brandy Alexander is also a great old fashioned cocktail. This time you add triple sec, Grand Marnier, and a lemon wedge. Mix all of the ingredients in a shaker and shake well. Use a sugar cube and make a simple syrup to top off your cocktail. Splash it over ice and enjoy.

If you don't like the taste of one of the above drinks then you'll love the peanut butter and maple syrup. It has a delicious maple syrup flavor and just a hint of peanut flavor. All of these drinks can be spiced up by adding a little bit of different ingredients, such as dashes of ginger, or just simple sugar cubes. There are many other variations to this old fashioned drink. There is something for everyone.
