If you're new to the world of fashion design, then you've probably heard of the many different fashion design courses that are available on the Internet. These courses can be obtained at home, in the classroom or through online video instruction. There is a big difference between these courses and what you might think of as “free” online fashion design courses. A lot of the courses out there require that you register for a class or purchase textbooks or other materials with your U.S. college. Some even require you to go to school somewhere other than where you live, making it necessary for you to find transportation.
There's also the fact that some free online courses are actually scams designed to separate people from their money. In some cases, people have been known to take courses just so they can get a certificate saying they know how to be a professional in the fashion industry. While this is nice to have, in truth most people who earn these types of certificates don't actually know how to be designers in the real world. And there's nothing wrong with that, but the courses aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
The good news is that there are plenty of great free online courses available for anyone interested in learning about the fashion industry. Many colleges offer short courses to help new students understand the fashion industry better. These short courses are often about six weeks long. During this time, students will learn about different types of media and the different types of fabrics that are used in fashion design. They'll learn about color theory, how lighting affects the way we see things, how texture can tell a story and how the visual medium has changed over the years.
After completing short courses, students should be ready to enter the fashion industry with a basic knowledge of the different design software that is being used in the fashion industry. CAD designs, for example, are the drawings made by computer-aided designers. There are a few different programs that are used in the fashion industry, but Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks and Corel draw are the most popular. This is important because if a designer can't draw it, they won't be able to work on it in the fashion industry.
In addition to free online courses, there are paid courses as well. These are usually about three or four months long. Students will learn about texturing, lighting, hair styling and drafting before they move on to designing a real product. This requires a lot more knowledge than just using the CAD software. This is why most schools offer these courses and often offer them at very affordable prices.
Once a student has their basic knowledge down, they will likely start to explore different options. Some students choose to attend local design schools. This allows them to work side by side with a mentor who can help guide them through the process. However, many choose to go online to learn more about the world of fashion design, and to make a good living working in this field.
