The trench coat is an extremely popular men's style, particularly among the working class. As the name implies, it is a coat that is worn in the trenches. It is also commonly known as a military jacket. During World War I, this type of coat was actually worn by British and Australian soldiers. They were called “papersharp” trench coats since they were made from heavy knit fabric, rather than the heavy cloth that most regular trench coats are made from. This was also because they were intended to be worn in a dangerous, hostile environment, like the battlefield.
Today, trench coats are still popular with men who like the rugged, outdoorsy look that can be found in any number of styles, colors and materials. But their origin story is an important part of their modern-day popularity. When the male population was fighting in World War I and World War II, there was very little fashion focus on clothing outside the service. This meant that while women wore their dresses more often, there was very little opportunity for men to be fashionable. This led to the popularity of the trench coat among British and Australian servicemen.
There were very few formal trench coats available, so men tended to dress more casually. As a result, there were not very many trench coats made. Instead, these were simply the same old coat, stitched in different places, with different buttons and other details. One could get a trench coat for basic wear or dress it up with cuff links, a tie and his military insignia.
In fact, the trench coat was not really thought of as a style item until much later. Just after the end of the war, in 1950, the British released a style called the trench coat. It was a small jacket that had been designed to fit inside of a combat backpack so that it would provide protection from chemical or poisonous attacks. The British version was called the Back Pack Trenchcoat, which was quite different than the American Trenchcoat, but had similar functions.
After World War II, the British military issued modernized trench coats to all of its servicemen. The US armed forces followed suit, but stopped short of redesigning the trench coat as we know it today. Instead, they just began adding small amounts of color and changed the buttons a bit, creating a uniform look that was quite different than the trench coats of the 1940s. They also began putting rank onto the shoulders of their jackets in what was known as the pea patch, creating a rank and pin stripe. Many US soldiers still in service today have a pea patch rank attached to their jacket.
A newer generation of military trench coats was designed by US military soldiers during and after the Korean War. These coats had a much shorter hemline than the trench coats of the past, giving them a more formal and polished look. They also featured a collar and a style that was quite similar to the military style dress uniforms of the time. They were made in dark colors like dark green, dark blue, or even dark browns to better match the uniforms.
Today trench coats are still worn by many men of the US military. They are often customized with decorations and patches that are part of the military tradition. There are many different types of trench coats, from ones that are long and flowing to those that are short and close to the body. Any of these looks are popular among men who serve in the US army or other US armed forces.
Today the trench coat has evolved into a fashion statement and can be seen on men of every walk of life. They come in every color imaginable, and some are quite stylish for more of an elegant look. Men can choose between pea bead zippers, buttons with decorative strips, and lots of different fabrics. They can have these tailored so that they fit comfortably and are not too casual or too dressy. Men's trench coats are not just for the military anymore. Many are bought by people who just like to look good in them for any occasion.
