Back in the 1990s, the '90s were a crazy decade for both fashion accessories. The era represented a cross between the hair metal bands of the early days, and the “grunge” fashion look of the eighties. A lot of the styles and trends witnessed during that decade can still be seen in mainstream fashion nowadays. There was a very clear difference between the fashions of the era and those of today.
The fashions of the decade, including those popular among the teens and young adults of that time, tended to be loud, abrasive and rock star-inspired. People wore t-shirts with big, bold lettering, and jeans that were cut higher than the usual wear. The fashion of the times was about cutting off your hair, wearing clothing that had as much color on it as possible, and sporting many different jewelry pieces. It was the decade that gave birth to grunge style.
Those who wore punk fashion back then were more likely to be very shy, and reserved. They tended to keep to themselves and shun the crowd. This attitude was also reflected in their clothing. Women wore long skirts and long shirts, and men tended to wear leather jackets and baseball caps. Their jewelry choices were also very limited, as they tended to keep to themselves, but their looks were certainly far from that of the average person of that era.
Today, those who are into punk fashion have a more outgoing attitude. They want to draw attention to themselves, and they are more likely to show off their fashion sense. Their clothing is more elaborate, they tend to be more confident in their appearance, and they don't care what people think of them. If they are dressed in clothes that scream “punk,” they are happy about it.
Of course, not everyone dresses this way. There are those who are still wearing the same old punk fashion, and who don't want to rock the boat. It is up to you to decide whether or not you want to look like one of those people. If you do, then you need to learn how to put on this type of clothing for your own personal satisfaction.
No matter what kind of person you are, or how many clothes you have in your wardrobe, if you are interested in making a statement that says “I am an individual,” then learning how to dress this way is for you. This is the only way you will truly look and feel like yourself. Just remember: this type of fashion takes time to get used to. So just go for it for now, and you'll soon find out just how much fun it can be!
